Port of Kristiansand

About Kristiansand, Guide and Tourist Attractions
(Kristiansand, Vest Agder, Norway)

Lying on the south coast of Norway, Kristiansand enjoys some of the country's best weather and is considered to be the number one holiday destination in Norway by Norwegians.

Tourists head to Kristiansand mainly for the outstanding coastal area.

What to do in Kristiansand

Kristiansand has a stunning coast with impossibly deep fjords and numerous untouched islands. Sightseeing cruises of these areas are very popular and the area's main attraction. You will see beautiful scenery, including pristine waters and many traditional fishing villages. There are special berths in the harbour for pleasure crafts, with vessels coming in from just about every corner of Europe.

Tourist Attractions

There are many other impressive tourist attractions besides the fjords and island cruises. These include the myriad of beaches, where the nation's highest sunshine record provides ideal bathing opportunities in the summer months. The new beach in the centre of town is the biggest draw.

The River Otra is very well located and is noted for its salmon fishing. The river runs through the heart of the town, meaning greater convenience for fishermen.

The Kristiansand Game Park is another major local attraction and is an ideal family day out as there is a host of children's activities based around a Noah's Ark theme. Other town attractions are detailed at the tourist information centre and include: Christansholm Fort, the Agder Natural Museum, the highly-rated Kristiansand Zoo and Kristiansand Cathedral.
